Everton eye Inter Milan defender Gosens

Everton sporting director Kevin Thelwell has reportedly made an approach to the agent of Robin Gosens to try and sign him from Inter Milan.

The Lowdown: Out of favour

The Germany international is seemingly fallen out of favour at the San Siro, having only managed to start one game in Serie A so far this season.

Curiously, he is getting more minutes in the Champions League, playing in every single match in the group stage, including scoring in a crucial 3-3 draw against Barcelona which helped to send his team through to the knockout rounds (Transfermarkt).

The Latest: Everton approach

As per FC Inter News, Thelwell has recently made an approach to Gosens’ agent over a potential move to Goodison Park in the January transfer window.

The left-back fears that he could lose his place in Germany’s national team for the World Cup due to his lack of playing time, and Everton – along with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga – could offer him a way out of Inter.

The Verdict: Mykolenko competition

Gosens would offer some quality competition to Vitaliy Mykolenko, should he make the move to Merseyside.

The 28-year-old is equally as comfortable playing at left wing-back as well as left-back, so he would be a great asset for Frank Lampard, who likes to switch between four- and five-at-the-back formations.

He has plenty of experience of operating at the highest level, having secured 14 senior caps for Germany and playing in Serie A and the Champions League for Inter; and should he make his country’s World Cup squad, Gosens will be one to keep an eye on for Everton supporters.
