Van Dijk has looked forward to the summer, insisting that the Reds are good enough to continue challenging for the Premier League title, as they close in on confirming their status as champions. The Dutchman's contract expires in the summer but he has now hinted he is set to commit his future to Anfield, following in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah, who has already put to bed speculation around his future by extending his deal.

Van Dijk scored a late winner against West Ham on Sunday as Arne Slot's side sealed a 2-1 win, leaving them 13 points clear of Arsenal in second. The Reds now need a maximum of six points from their final six games, but they could win the league title this weekend, if the Gunners lose to Ipswich and they beat Leicester, and the centre-back has suggested an announcement is coming.

WHAT VAN DIJK SAID

He told reporters: "I think Liverpool should be able to challenge for titles in the upcoming years.

"Whatever happens in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer. I think they're planning to make it a big summer, so we all have to trust the board, as a Liverpool connected fan, to do the right job."

On his future, he added: "Let's see how this week goes. I think first, all the focus should be going to the Hillsborough anniversary. I mentioned it already in interviews, I think that's the main thing and then we'll see. The focus will still be on Leicester, but maybe there's some news. I don't know. I know, but I don't know."

AFPWHAT NEXT?

Liverpool will hope to go one step closer to glory against Leicester. A 20th league title – which would equal Manchester United's record – awaits.
