Alejandro Garnacho has revealed his new squad number at Manchester United, with 17 being taken due to a link with his hero Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 19-year-old winger has never hidden his admiration for former Red Devils superstar Ronaldo. There was talk at one stage of the Argentine youngster being handed the No.7 jersey that his boyhood idol once wore with distinction at Old Trafford.

That shirt has, however, been passed to summer signing Mason Mount, leaving Garnacho to look elsewhere. He has donned No.49 since making a senior breakthrough with United, but his brother had teased at a change being made when posting a picture of Ronaldo wearing 17 for Portugal.

It has now been confirmed that Garnacho will be taking on that shirt for 2023-24. The likes of Fred, Nani and Andy Cole have previously worn No.17 for United.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Garnacho has taken in 38 competitive appearances for United, scoring five goals, and is looking to compete with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony for regular game time in wide attacking berths this season.
