Who is the leading all-time top goal scorer for Ghana? Asamoah Gyan and Black Stars greatest strikers

Ghana have produced some great goal scorers on the international stage

Ghana have produced some of the greatest goal scorers in the history of African football.

Nicknamed 'The Black Stars', they are the oldest football association in Africa.

We all know of the legendary Asamoah Gyan, who scored the fastest goal in the history of the World Cup after just 68 seconds in 2006.

But what about Sulley Muntari, the midfielder who scored an incredible long-range effort at the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay.

Or 'African Maradona' Abedi Pele, whose performance at the 1992 African Cup of Nations is often described as one of the most outstanding displays of football by any player in a single tournament.

Who are Ghana's greatest goal-getters, though?

Let's take a look!

The greatest goalscorer to play for Ghana with 51 international goals, Asamoah Gyan had a career to remember!

Gyan made his first appearance for the senior national team at the age of 17 in 2003 and scored against Somalia on his debut.

His goals in qualifications helped Ghana reach the World Cup for the first time ever in 2006.

At the tournament, he also scored the fastest goal in the history of the World Cup after just 68 seconds.

This was also Ghana's first-ever goal at the tournament, coming against Czech Republic.

Edward Acquah is the second-highest goal scorer in Ghanaian history with 45 goals in just 41 caps between 1956 and 1964.

The striker was part of the national team at the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo.

His best performance at a single tournament came at the 1963 African Cup of Nations, where he scored four goals, including two in the final against Sudan to help Ghana win their first-ever title.

3Kwasi Owusu | 36 goals

Next up on the list of Ghana's all-time top goal scorers is Kwasi Owusu with 36 goals in over 130 appearances.

Owusu impressively scored five goals on his national team debut in August 1969, when Ghana beat Niger 6-0 in the 1970 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

He then scored four goals against the same opponent just over a month later.

Owusu passed away in March 2020, aged 74.

Tony Yeboah scored 29 goals in 59 appearances for Ghana between 1985 and 1997.

The former Leeds United striker was a member of the national team for over 10 years, representing them at three African Cup of Nations during the 1990s.

Yeboah's most clinical performance for Ghana came when he scored a brace against Burkina Faso in an African Cup of Nations Qualifier held in 1992.
